TX Young Driver Fund

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) helps young people who were in foster care transition to adulthood. They also work with local groups that help homeless people. These groups may not have a way to get around (by car or bus), which makes it hard for people to find jobs, so the government has decided to create a program to help.

The Driver's Education Funding program will pay for driver's education classes for people who qualify, helping them learn how to drive and get a driver's license. The program will cover all the costs for training and related fees. It's a way to help more people find jobs

Basic Package-Teen Driver Education

• 32-hours of classroom
• Permit test to obtain learners license
• Student Driver Insurance Discount
• *In -Car Behind the wheel completion within 9 months
• DPS road testing for a dicounted rate
• $250 Non-refundable deposit is required to secure seat
• $35 Payment Plan Fee

Students will take the permit test on the fifth day of class. After passing, they will receive a DE-964 and checklist to take to the DPS. Students can begin scheduling their drive times while they complete the remaining class days.

How to register for the Texas Workforce Commission's Youth Driver Education Funding Program?

You can apply for free driver's education if you meet at least one of these criteria:

• You are younger than 18 years old and residing in foster care now
• You are at least 18 years old, but younger than 21, in foster care being paid for by the Department of Family and Protective Services
• You experienced dating violence, or you are a child of someone who experienced dating violence
• You experienced family violence, or you are a child of someone who experienced family violence
• You are younger than 26 years old and aged out of the Texas Foster Care system or have experienced homelessness
• You are younger than 26 years old and have experienced or are experiencing homelessness

If you think you may be eligible for the program, complete the application and eligibility verification forms, even if you are not sure. The application will be reviewed within five (5) business days to determine if you are eligible.

• driver education classes
• behind-the-wheel training
• driver tests

Teen Behind-the-Wheel Transfer

Behind-the-Wheel instruction which provides practical driving experiences. In-Car instructions are also available for those who have already completed the classroom phase of the Driver's Ed Course. Package often purchased by Transfer Students who took an Online program or Parent Taught program.
